Recently, gas prices in the Washington are has been continuously rising, now with an average of $5.60 per gallon. This spike has affected many Eastlake students directly. impacting their travels and daily life. We interviewed a couple of different students to get an insight on how these high prices are effecting their lives.
Many highschoolers use a car in their day-to-day life, whether it is going to school or an extracurricular activity. The older students sometimes have their own cars to drive, in which they are responsible for filling up the Gas. Aashritha is a sophomore student on a tight budget. It is a struggle for her to get to places because gas prices are so high, and she “doesn’t have enough money”. Other students have extra curriculars, for example Brooke does volleyball, and her family drives down to places like Oregon for competitions. The long hours of driving on top of all the money spent on gas alone is so much work and dedication. Colton has soccer practice, and is also affected by the prices since he drives to practice.
All of these students are feeling the weight of the rising gas prices. However, there are ways to help during this time of stress. Many students opt for carpooling, or public transportation since the bus is free for students in our area. Brooke stated that for volleyball, occasionally there would be busses for her entire team, which helps save gas and money on the road. Our community is being directly impacted by these gas prices, so it is important to try and save resources, as well as helping each other out when they are struggling.
