Throughout Sour Howl, I have got to learn about all the new and old teachers around Eastlake. I get to learn what they think makes a great classroom, future advice, and what might be their favorite snack, all while forcing them to eat Sour candies. Sour Howl gets to show people around Eastlake who teachers are outside of school, but also show them teachers they’ve never met. It may be a teacher who is new to teaching, or a loved teacher that everyone requests, getting to learn more about them in a fun way has been an awesome experience.
On Sour Howl, I start by getting to know the teachers by asking questions about their life: What they like to do after school, favorite snack, why they chose the courses they chose to teach. I interviewed Rigtrup on what he hopes students remember from his lessons and him, and he stated that he hopes students remember that he cares about them, and that he chose this profession because he cares about finances, accounting and students, all while he eats a Sour candy ball.
Interviewing Simmons on Rugby and how they got into it, by getting carded in Soccer, showed them a new sport that they now play as an adult. Simmons had a great reaction to our Sour candy making amazing facial expressions while talking about lessons they hope their students take with them throughout their life. Hoping that they take the lessons about being a bystander, even though they teach science. Talking about the bystander and if one person starts helping so will other people showing the meaningful impact of helping someone in need.
