On September 25th Eastlake Student Athletes underwent the first grade-checks of the Fall season. Students must pass 6 of their 7 classes to be eligible to participate in their sports. If students don’t meet these standards, they have 2 weeks to improve their grades. If they can’t get their grades up, they will be ineligible for 3 weeks.
We spoke to Mr. Bangasser the Athletic Director about his thoughts on this policy being implemented this early in the year. Mr. Bangasser said, “Hopefully 3 weeks into the school year, students have established some great habits and patterns for getting their homework done.”
We also interviewed some of the student-athletes to hear their thoughts on the change. Zoey Christensen, a sophomore slow pitch player, said that she often forgets about the policy but thinks that it is especially important “as you get into the later seasons like winter and spring because you do need to be passing your classes and it shouldn’t just be about sports.”
