EASTLAKE HIGH SCHOOL – The drama program will be performing their production of Tartuffe for the first time this evening.
According to the school website’s drama page, research shows a link between participating in school theatre and increased academic achievement and social connection.
“I just love the whole community,” says Grace M., actor.
Grace, who plays Orgon, began their acting career during their sophomore year, taking Drama 1 merely to earn an art credit.
Now in their third year with the program, Grace has earned superior scores for duet acting and lighting design and qualifies for competition at the national level.
“It’s like a whirlwind, it goes so fast,” states Lou C., stage manager.
Lou, who has dabbled in both acting and stage management, has become a seasoned stage manager on account of Eastlake’s abundant acting talent.
Now in their junior year, Lou has earned an excellent score in stage acting at the regional level and is excited to continue working with the drama program.
“We were obsessed, we loved it so much,” reflects Zita V., actor.
Zita, who plays the titular Tartuffe, joined the drama program last year after watching Eastlake’s rendition of The Beauty and the Beast with a friend.
Now in her second year with the program, Zita has earned an excellent score for monologue at the regional level and looks forward to performing for middle schools around the district.
“[Tartuffe] is also super relevant,” remarks Mr. Adam R., director.
Mr. R., who teaches at Eastlake, chose Tartuffe for its humor and themes of family, friendship, and love.
Performances take place from February 7th to February 10th with tickets starting at $7.00.
