Many students at Eastlake take pride in their academics, a large part of this culture has to do with the exorbitant number of AP classes our students take. CollegeBoard recommends that the most rigorous schedule a High School student should take is 5 AP classes through all of high school. There are quite a few students in Eastlake who do 5 per year, or even more.
What many students miss however is the equal importance of grades. Anna Aegerter, the Senior Associate Director of Admissions at the University of Redlands in California, determined that the number of AP classes does not matter quite as much as grades and GPA.
However, a 3.5 GPA with 5 AP classes is slightly less favorable than a 3.5 GPA with 10 AP classes. If your AP classes would significantly drop your GPA, it might not be worth taking. Remember, as a student the most important thing to maintain would be a good GPA, what a good GPA is differs from person to person.
