Recap: Eastlake @ Skyline Track Meet

SAMMAMISH- Eastlake Track and Field got off to a good start last Thursday at their first dual meet of the season against the Skyline Spartans. Conditions were spotty, as rain poured down and temperatures dropped to 35 degrees fahrenheit, but the Wolves were still able to run away with several first place finishers and many more personal records. Here is a recap of some of the top performances:

In the 100 meter dash, Jr. Trevor Galvin came in at 2nd place overall for the boys with a blazing time of 11.69, just 0.08 seconds away from first place. Soph. Bryson Hodges was not far behind, finishing 4th place overall with a time of 11.86. On the girls side, Sr. Alison Plagge and Soph. Peyton Glennon came in at 3rd and 4th place overall, with photo finish times of 13.83 and 13.84.

In the 200 meter dash, the boys ran the event. Jr. Harry McHugh blew away the competition with a 1st place finish, clocking in at 24.00. Jr. Trevor Galvin and Soph. Bryson Hodges also came in hot, finishing 2nd and 3rd place with times of 24.78 and 24.79. Sr. Caden Dosch also ran very quick, coming in 5th place with a time 0f 25.06. The girls also handled the competition, with Sr. Ava Hagwell finishing 1st place with a time of 27.46, and Sr. Peyton Quinto coming in second with a time of 28.07.

In the 400 meter dash, the boys continued to run by the Spartans. Jr. Nolan Francisco took 1st place overall with a time of 56.87, and Soph. Zachary Mcdonald finished right behind with a time of 57.08 for 2nd place. Sr. Gustav Zaunders also ran an impressive 58.25 to take 4th place. Jr. Helen Johnson was the only runner for the Eastlake girls in the 4o0 meter, and she took 5th place with a time of 1:12.

The boys struggled in the 800 meter dash, and Sally Roos was the only runner for the girls, coming in 3rd place with a time of 2:18, running against some of the best competition in the country for girls distance.

The 1600 meter was all Eastlake. For the boys, Soph. Eli Yoon, Soph. Andrew Talius, Jr. Daniel Montano, Soph. Lukas Talius, and Soph. Silas Smith all ran sub 5 minute times, with Yoon, Talius, and Montano taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The girls were very similar, as the top 5 finishers were all Eastlake. Sr. Alyssa Flindt came in first place with a time of 5:33, and Jr. Abbey Van-Valkenburg was not far behind, taking 2nd place with a time of 5:37.

Jr. Kahiel Brown and Soph. Matthew Secrist ran away with 1st and 2nd place in the boys 300m hurdles with times of 43.67 and 44.82. Sr. Miles Kim also came in 3rd with a time of 45.97. On the girls side, Fr. Kiera Merrigan was the lone runner for the wolves, taking 2nd place with a time of 58.55.

The girls 4×400, consisting of Sr. Alyssa Flindt, Sr. Peyton Quinto, Sr. Ava Hagwell, and Sr. Erin Schmidlin took 2nd place with a time of 4:16.

Sr. Jack Porter threw 45 in shot put to take 1st place for the boys, and Soph. Addison Kapur threw 28 to take 2nd place for the girls.

Jr. Eli Deguzman, Jr. Mason Heisser, Jr. Caleb Mohrhardt, Soph. Bryson Hodges, and Sr. Kitan Sojinrin all tied for 1st place in the high jump with 5’4 for the boys.

Jr. Mason Heisser jumped 39 in the triple jump to take 1st place for the boys.

Eastlake’s next meet will be at home against Newport on April 5th. A handful of Wolves will also run at the Mt. Tahoma Track Festival this Saturday, April 1st.
