Eastlake HOSA participates in Spring Leadership Conference
Mar 20, 2023
More than 60 of Eastlake’s HOSA members traveled to Spokane to participate in the Spring Leadership Conference (SLC) from March 9th to the 11th. HOSA Future Health Professionals is a competition-based club focused on preparing students for future health careers. Ananya Kodituwakku, a HOSA officer, said SLC helps students gain experience in the medical field, “it’s basically an opportunity for students to compete in events about different medical subjects and to network with others.”
The events students competed in include CPR/first aid, dental science, medical spelling, nutrition, forensic science, biomedical debate, and more. In addition, Chinmayee Desphande explained that students also participated in knowledge tests that don’t require traveling to Spokane. Desphande further categorized events to teamwork events and individual presentation events.
Eastlake HOSA prepared members for SLC through their mentorship program which pairs mentors and mentees within events to provide guidance. The eight Eastlake students who qualified for HOSA’s international conference will be traveling to Texas in June.
HOSA is open to anyone interested in the medical field and competing is not a requirement. Anyone interested in participating in demos including suturing can join HOSA without competing. Currently, there are about 180 registered HOSA members.
